PROMISE RING VS ENGAGEMENT RING

Different designs of Engagement rings.
Can we say a Promise ring is an Engagement ring or the promise of an Engagement ring?!

Lately, many people have been wandering what the difference is between a Promise ring and an Engagement ring. I was watching this movie where the guy and the girl have been dating for years, the girl has been waiting for an engagement ring, but she got a promise ring instead. She was so angry and frustrated that she ended the relationship, this scenario got me thinking; what is the difference between a Promise ring and an Engagement ring?

What an interesting question this is. According to Brides.com, “In the simplest of terms, a promise ring is a step up from dating. It shows the world that your heart belongs to another and that you’re devoted to protecting and nurturing that relationship. These days, a promise ring is most commonly given as a precursor to an engagement, but that is not always the case”. How refreshing to know that a promise ring is definitely not an engagement ring, in fact the rules of an engagement ring and that of the promise ring are not similar at all. For instance promise ring can be worn in any ring finger, hung around the neck in form of a necklace or can be put away.

Engagement ring on the other hand is a symbol of love and commitment when two people decide to spend the rest of their lives together. An engagement ring stands for the promise of marriage, while the promise ring stands for the promise of an engagement ring. A promise ring can be made in any form or style since they are no rules or requirement, it is very affordable since a lot of money is not put in to it, also giving a promise ring is plain and simple, it does not come with the same traditional expectation as an engagement proposal, going down on one kneel is not necessary also an elaborate planning is not needed. It can be given as a birthday gift, as simple as that.

People wonder if a promise ring and an engagement ring should be worn by both partners, or the lady alone?
